  Title Arizona Regional Image Archive
  Description The Arizona Regional Image Archive contains USGS quadrangle maps and orthophotos of Arizona and some surrounding areas (including New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Sonora, Mexico). To download maps, users must register with the site; however, registration is free. This resource is particularly useful for people wishing to do GIS-based analyses.

  Title Center for Southwest Studies—Digital Image Access Homepage, Fort Lewis College
  Description The "Digital Image Access Homepage" is the beginning of Fort Lewis College's attempt to digitize documents, collection forms, and photographs, specifically those dealing with prehistoric and historic southwestern Colorado human history. This site, operated by the Center for Southwest Studies, allows access to a large public database of images. These include handwritten collections acquisition forms, sketches and photographs of museum artifacts, and historic documents. In addition, this site provides a number of educational resources, particularly for K-12 educators.

  Title Chaco Culture National Historical Park Museum Collections
  Description This online exhibit provides access to images and information about the resources in the Chaco Collection (a result of over 100 years of excavation in Chaco Canyon). Object images are organized into 6 categories (daily life, subsistence, technology, trade, communication, and all object images). Also available are slide shows relating to Chaco National Historical Park, and links to other relevant resources.

  Description This site contains photographs from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Photo Library. The collection consists of over 25,100 photos ranging in age from 1868 through 1992, including many from the Southwest. The photographs in this library are not copyrighted and may be used freely.

  Title Edward S. Curtis's The North American Indian
  Description This Library of Congress exhibit provides digital copies of photographs published in The North American Indian, by Edward S. Curtis, and also contains an excellent discussion of the context and significance of Curtis' work. The "Southwest" volume will be of interest to Southwesternists, while the entire collection is a great resource for those interested in American Indian Studies.

  Title Hovenweep Virtual Reality Tour
  Description This web site provides a virtual tour of Hovenweep Park. Hovenweep is unique in that the standing structures have not been reconstructed; they have been stabilized, but not rebuilt. Today these structures that haven’t been inhabited for over 700 years stand as they were first discovered for all to enjoy.

  Description This photograph collection, provided by the Western History / Genealogy Department of the Denver Public Library in partnership with the Colorado Historical Society and Denver Art Museum, includes a search engine for 100,000 on-line historic photographs of western states. Many images of the Southwest are available. The site also contains images of artifacts from the Colorado Historical Society and Denver Art Museum. High-resolution prints of the images are available for sale.

  Title The Southwest Anthropology and Archaeology Pages
  Description This site, created by James Q. Jacobs, provides excellent photographs and informative, though brief descriptions of various ruins and artifacts from the Southwest, mostly from the Colorado Plateau area, including Hovenweep, Betatakin, and of course Chaco Canyon. For each archaeological site, there are also links provided to other important, related websites. Worth mentioning are the impressive photograph galleries of rock art from the Southwest, such as Canyon de Chelly. The amount and quality of the photographs on this site are what really make this web site stand out, along with the ease of navigation between areas. Each photo can also be easily enlarged.

  Title University of Arizona Herbarium
  Description The University of Arizona Herbarium (ARIZ) is the largest herbarium in the arid southwest and contains the largest collection in the world of plants from Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. The ARIZ web site provides information about visiting, but it also contains a useful catalog of photographs as well as information on an ongoing specimen database project. Detailed information about the database, which will geo-reference all Arizona vascular plant collections by 2006, can be downloaded in the "projects" section of the site.

  Title Virtual field trip of the American Southwest: Photo catalog
  Description This collection of photographs, a project of the Department of Geography at the University of Lethbridge, is organized as a "virtual field trip," complete with journal entries. Although some of the photographs are of areas outside the Southwest, this is a nice resource for anyone looking for visual images of well-known Southwestern locations.

  Title Virtual Reconstruction of the Chetro Ketl Great Kiva
  Description This site presents a three-dimensional reconstruction of a Great Kiva, an architectural feature found in many prehistoric Anasazi communities in the Southwestern United States. This particular model was created using archaeological records from the excavated Chetro Ketl Great Kiva, which is located in Chaco Canyon in northwestern New Mexico. The model contains over 1,000 objects.
