  Description The American Rock Art Research Association (ARARA), which was founded to support rock art research, conservation, and education, is the oldest rock art association in the world. The ARARA web site provides basic information about the organization, a description of the annual conference, and links to other rock art sites.

  Title Archaeology of Rock Art: Recent Research in Baja California
  Description Devoted to rock art research in Baja California Sur, this site features comments from faculty and a brief introduction to the work done and continuing to be done in the region, including at the newest region of the Sierra de San Fransisco. Sierra de San Fransisco is the largest archaeological excavation in Baja California and the largest ever in Mexico to deal specifically with hunter-gatherer archaeology. Recent excavations near unique rock art sites uncovered well-preserved textiles, lithics and pigments.

  Description The Deer Valley Rock Art Center (DVRAC) preserves and provides public access to the Hedgpeth Hills petroglyph site.   Title Petroglyph National Monument
  Description This is the official National Park Service site for Petroglyph National Monument, located in central New Mexico. The Monument "protects a variety of cultural and natural resources including five volcanic cones, hundreds of archeological sites and an estimated 25,000 petroglyph images carved by native peoples and early Spanish settlers." Although these carvings are why the park is named, natural resources that include unique desert flora and fauna are also within the bounds of this park. The monument's web site has information on all the above topics, with many photo galleries and additional links to additional information. Of particular interest is the "In Depth" link (http://www.nps.gov/petr/home.htm), which traces human presence in the Petroglyphs from the Paleoindian period through present day, using archaeological and historical resources.

  Title Pueblo of Sandia Petroglyph project
  Description This site comes out of field work done by students from the Sandia Pueblo at Petroglyph National Monument in New Mexico. It outlines the project and provides links to related websites and a report on this petroglyph recording demonstration by Henry Walt and John Brayer. There is also a link to a worldwide list of rock art sites and projects.

  Title Rock Art Studies: A Bibliographic Database
  Description This online bibliography contains over 14,000 citations of resources on rock art worldwide. Though not specific to the Southwest, many resources pertain to this region. It should be noted that this is not a critical bibliography; rather, it is a listing of relevant resources. The bibliography was created by Leigh Marymor and is maintained by the Bancroft Library at University of California/Berkeley.

  Title Selected References on North American Indian Rock Art
  Description These references were compiled by the Smithsonian Institution Anthropology Outreach Office. The list of about 50 references includes articles and books from 1929 to 2004. Many of these articles are scholary works, but would probably be easy to find in a unversity library. Since the list has not been updated since 2004, users should be aware that they do not include more recent works. Available in pdf.

  Title Tomol: An On-Line Archive of Digital Images of Rock Art from
  Description Including digital images of rock art from eight western states and a huge range of related resources, this site is a valuable resource for researchers and instructors. The site was developed to promote instruction and research in rock art and actively solicites contributions of photographs and digital images. Still under construction as of February 2005, there are sections featuring on-line papers and monographs, an index of related sites, and links to parks, individuals, professional organizations, etc.

  Title URARA: Utah Rock Art Research Association
  Description A site for anyone interested in rock art, URARA is an advocate group for the protection and preservation of rock art. The site provides e-versions of articles from URARA-sponsored symposiums and the organization's newsletter, as well as an online newsletter (Vestiges) and a photo gallery from members. Links to other rock art sites are provided.
