  Title Anasazi Heritage Center: Collections, Research, and Resources
  Description The Anasazi Heritage Center (http://www.co.blm.gov/ahc) uses this page to provide information about accessing and using their collection databases. The databases are not available online; however, this site provides information on how one might obtain access to them. Of particular interest are the online reports on the "Save America's Treasures" project and on the Dolores Archaeological Project (DAP).

  Title Arizona State Parks-State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)
  Description This site is the portion of the larger Arizona State Parks web site that is devoted to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The page describes the purpose of SHPO and gives contact information. It includes pages that discuss local government interaction, preservation programs for the public, links to information about the National Register of Historic Places (gives information on how to get places listed on the Register), gives tax incentives for registering historic properties. In addition, the site gives a list of relative publications and includes a page of links to related organizations. The site puts the work of SHPO within the context of the State Park network

  Title Colorado Historical Society Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation
  Description This is the official site of the Colorado Historical Society's Office of Archaeology and Preservation. The site provides educational resources about Colorado's cultural heritage, information about cultural resource legislation, standards, and procedures (including downloadable forms), and information about types of cultural resources, including databases, grants, and historical and archaeological sites within the state. The site also has a "Links" section that contains an extensive list of websites that relate to Colorado's cultural heritage, many of which are relevant to southwestern archaeology and history; and it contains information about current job opportunities in the state of Colorado.

  Title Heritage Preservation Services
  Description This National Park Service program provides resources to help Americans identify, evaluate, protect and preserve historic properties. Heritage Preservation Services programs include the American Battlefields Protection Program, the Tribal Preservation Program, the Historic Landscape Initiative, the Federal Agency Preservation Assistance Program, the Historic Surplus Property Program, the Historic Preservation Planning Program, the Certified Local Government Program, and Technical Preservation Services for Historic Buildings. Their web site provides access to information about grants and funding, to online databases, to the newsletter Vineyard, as well as to individual program web sites. This is a great resource for anyone needing information on historic property preservation.

  Title Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia
  Description This is the web site for INAH, or the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History. The bureau supervises over 110 historical monuments, 29 thousand archaeological zones, and over a hundred historical museums within the national territory; links to information about all of these resources is available from both the English and the Spanish versions of the web site. In addition, there is a narrative "forward" to the site that provides background information about the organization and about anthropology and archaeology in Mexico. INAH has also integrated documentary cultural resources including the Anthropology and History Library, the National System of Photo Archives, the Sound Library "devoted to the recording and preservation of musical tradition testimonies" and the Film Library. INAH Home is a bilingual Spanish-English site, offering English translations for many of the pages. However, at this time, several of the pages remain Spanish-only. Although not specific to the Southwest, the site is a critical resource for those with an interest in anthropological and archaeological study.

  Description “Instituto Nacional Indigenista—Mexico Programas y Proyectos” suministre informacion de las programas de INI.   Title National NAGPRA Database and Program
  Description The "National NAGPRA" web site is designed to assist tribal agencies, universities, and museums with the procedures and regulations set forth in the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990. NAGPRA provides a "process for museum and Federal agencies to return certain Native American cultural items to lineal descendants, and culturally affiliated Indian tribes and Native Hawaiian organizations." The site, operated by the National Park Service, offers resources and forms for this process, as well as a searchable database wherein objects are listed for repatriation. There are also pages that explain NAGPRA to the general public, contain up to date news, and provide information to the press. Though not specific to the southwest, this site is an important resource for anyone needing information on NAGPRA.

  Title National Park Service Geographic Information Systems
  Description This web site provides general information on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as well as information on how GIS are being used in the National Park System (NPS). Of particular interest is the GIS data from a variety of National Parks that is available for download. Though the site as a whole is not specific to the Southwest, data from a number of NPS sites in the Southwest are available. This is an excellent resource for anyone conducting mapping projects in the region.

  Title New Mexico Cultural Database of Museums, Parks and Monuments
  Description This site was initially created to produce a paper directory and an "infobase" of cultural information for the state of New Mexico. This site has been produced by the Office of Statewide Programs and Education of the Museum of New Mexico, and serves as a guide to cultural sites and collections in the state of New Mexico. The site gives references and links the user to museums, national and state parks, historical societies, public archives and also to publicly accessible collections.

  Description This page is the site for the Historic Preservation Division of New Mexico. The web page includes lists of funding opportunities and related deadlines. It includes a information about obtaining archaeological permits in New Mexico and eligibility requirements for the National Registry of Historic Places (including a list of sites on the Registry). Forms, information about New Mexico state laws, and contact information are also included. The page is largely devoted to the legal end of conducting archaeological and historical research in New Mexico, and the available resources and applicable requirements associated with the state. Of particular interest is a county-by-county working list for determining which Native American Indian tribes want to be consulted for proposed projects in various geographic parts of New Mexico, and contact information for pueblos and reservations, available in the "Section 106" part of the site.

  Title Of stone and stories: pueblitos of Dinétah
  Description "Of stone and stories" is the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) online exhibit on the Dinétah. Dinétah, located in northwest New Mexico, is known as the Navajo ancestral homeland and is currently located on BLM land. The online exhibit provides a Navajo history, information about both the early and more modern archaeology conducted in this region, a general Dinétah timeline, and many images of the landscape and material culture of Dinétah.

  Description The Home site for the Southwest Office of Native American Programs under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The site provides information about programs and resources for Native American communities in the SWONAP service area: Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Ysleta del Sur. The pages offer information on community sponsored programs, the SWONAP regional calendar of events, and links to resources such as Tribal Libraries and Native eDGE.

  Title Utah State History-Department of Community and Economic Development
  Description This is the Utah Division of State History/Utah State Historical Society site on Utah state history. The site includes pages that link to funding opportunities related to the organization and lists of periodicals and books published by the Historical Society. Pages also link to volunteering and membership options and educational resources available to teachers. Pages include links to legal forms, public archeology resources, and information about the National Register for Historic Places. Perhaps the most interesting part of the site is the page that links to the library/collections section of the organization. This portion includes a list of topics of all newspaper clippings, periodicals, and yearbooks to which the society has access.

  Title Web del Estado Sonora/State of Sonora Web
  Description "State of Sonora Web" provides an introduction to the history and culture of the state. The site's pages include photographs, information on individual cities and towns, descriptions of regional cuisine, an introduction to indigenous languages in Sonora, and a cultural gallery featuring poems and verses by Sonoran writers and images of Sonoran art. Page titles are presented in Spanish but, since the site is designed to be tourist friendly, many of the pages offer English text. The site provides a good introduction to areas of historical and cultural interest in the state with links to several of the cities' official web sites.
